The best Christmas lighting design for columns and a recessed entry begins with the visible front roofline. Lights follow the front eaves and the sloped trim bordering street-facing gables. Roof ridges and hips that run back across the shingles remain unlit. Column lighting, garland, wreaths and bows then support that architectural outline.
Column wrapping is an optional, separately priced addition available in Warm White or Multicolor. Garland may frame an approved entry or fixed porch header when that placement is planned for the property. A wreath must never span the center seam of double doors.
Light Glow’s professional Christmas lighting service in The Villages includes a property-specific design and a visual rendering sent for approval before installation.

Start With the Complete Visible Front Roofline
The entry may be the emotional center of the display, but the roofline gives the design its structure. Light Glow generally lights the approved front-facing roof edges across the visible façade: horizontal eaves, sloped trim on the front face of gables, entry sections, and the edges above double and golf-cart garages. Ridges and hips running backward across the shingled roof are not part of that front outline.
This approach connects the different heights and architectural sections of the home without leaving a prominent front section dark. Once the outline is established, entry decorations can add depth and draw the eye toward the front door.

Which Christmas Decorations Work Around an Entry?
A recessed entry can support several elements, but it rarely needs every possible one. Column lights add height and symmetry. Garland adds greenery and texture that reads well during the day. A wreath gives the entrance a focal point, while a restrained number of bows adds traditional color.
The visual rendering sent for approval helps determine whether the entry needs one strong feature or a layered combination. It also shows how the entry works with the garage, landscaping and complete front roofline.
When Does Lighting Work Well on Columns?
Column lighting can be effective when the columns are visible from the street and meaningfully frame the entry. It can give a deep porch more definition, connect the roofline with the walkway, and bring the entrance into proportion on a larger Designer or Premier Home.
The treatment depends on the column shape, spacing and height. A narrow round column calls for a different layout from a broad square one. For a group of columns, Light Glow plans the full symmetrical group as part of the larger composition. The number of columns, stopping points and lighting treatment are shown in the approved design.
Column wrapping is separately priced and may be specified in Warm White or Multicolor. The color is selected to suit the full display, whether the seasonal roofline uses Warm White or Multicolor.

Should Every Column Be Wrapped?
When a porch has a symmetrical group of columns, the design should treat that full group coherently. A pair of matching columns normally receives matching treatment; a larger group is planned as a whole rather than as unrelated individual posts.
That does not mean every home needs column lights. Entry garland or a well-placed wreath may supply enough presence without adding a vertical wrap. The rendering lets the homeowner judge the balance before approving the work.
How Can Garland Be Used Around a Recessed Entry?
Warm White illuminated garland may frame an approved recessed entry when the architecture and installation conditions support it. Suitable locations can include fixed trim, surrounding architectural surfaces or an approved fixed porch header. Header placement is planned separately as part of the property-specific design.
Garland is not attached to moving door panels. The approved placement must preserve normal door operation and clear access. A deep entry may benefit from daytime greenery, especially if the columns are not wrapped.
Standard included garland lighting is Warm White even when the seasonal roofline is Multicolor. Multicolor-lit garland is a separately priced upgrade. For garage placement, see Christmas Garland for Garage Doors in The Villages.

Where Should a Wreath Go Near the Entry?
The best location creates a clear focal point without interfering with the doorway. Depending on the property and approved design, that may be a solid stucco wall, a front-facing gable, an architectural area above a recessed entry, or an approved single-door location.
A wreath must never span the center seam of double doors. Other door-mounted arrangements require property review. On a double-door home, an approved location above the recessed entry can keep the doors unobstructed and make the wreath more visible from the street.
Standard included wreath lighting is Warm White, including when the roofline is Multicolor. A Multicolor-lit wreath is a separately priced upgrade. For more detail, read Christmas Wreath Size and Placement for Homes in The Villages.
How Should a Deep Recessed Entry Be Designed?
A deep porch creates natural shadow even when the front roofline is lit. The design can use column lighting or entry garland for vertical definition, one appropriately placed wreath, a limited number of bows, and the home’s existing exterior and landscape lighting.
The entry does not need to be brighter than the rest of the home. It should have enough presence to feel connected to the complete façade.
Christmas Entry Ideas for Villas, Designer Homes and Premier Homes
Villas and Smaller Homes
A restrained entry may need only the complete visible front roofline, garland around an approved recessed entry, one appropriately placed 24-inch wreath and two red bows. Columns can remain unwrapped when the garland already gives the entrance enough definition.
Silver starts at $1,795. It includes one 24-inch Warm White illuminated wreath, up to 18 feet of Warm White illuminated garland and two red bows. A 36-inch wreath is available as a separately priced upgrade.
Designer Homes
Broader frontages, taller gables and deeper porches may support a symmetrical column treatment. The roofline remains the foundation while a wreath, garland and design-selected bows help the entrance relate to the garage sections.
Gold starts at $2,995. It includes one 24- or 36-inch Warm White illuminated wreath, up to 36 feet of Warm White illuminated garland and design-selected bows. Column lighting and additional roofline coverage are separately priced when requested and approved.
Premier Homes
A Premier Home may have a wide façade, prominent porch, double doors, several columns and separate garage sections. The entrance should have enough visual scale to relate to the entire home. A symmetrical column treatment, an approved wreath above a recessed double entry and garland at an entry or garage can create that balance.
Platinum starts at $3,995. It includes up to two 24- or 36-inch Warm White illuminated wreaths, up to 60 feet of Warm White illuminated garland and design-selected bows. Some Premier Homes may fit Gold when the approved scope fits its package. Larger or more detailed designs may call for Platinum, separately priced additions or a contact-only Custom proposal starting at $5,995.

How Does Light Glow Plan for Columns and Entry Surfaces?
Light Glow does not use penetrating attachments for seasonal décor, and its seasonal roofline installation does not penetrate architectural shingles. The approved method depends on the column shape, stucco, trim, entry construction, access and placement. Depending on the property, suitable roofline attachment may use fascia, drip edge, gutters, soffits or another approved fixed area.
Recent paint, sealant, stucco repair or roof work may delay installation depending on the work and the other contractor’s instructions. Light Glow photographs and discusses visible pre-existing surface concerns with the homeowner. Careful planning and suitable placement are more accurate than a universal “damage-free” promise.
What Happens After Design Approval?
Light Glow’s residential seasonal service includes professional design, a visual rendering sent for approval, installation by Light Glow employees, in-season maintenance for lighting-related service needs, professional post-season removal and off-season warehousing. Approved column-lighting additions receive the same in-season maintenance, removal and warehousing treatment as the package display.
Light Glow supplies and retains ownership of the seasonal display materials. The homeowner approves the roofline color, column treatment, wreath and garland locations and separately priced additions before installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is column lighting included in Silver, Gold or Platinum?
No. It is an optional, separately priced addition when requested and approved.
Can column lights be Warm White or Multicolor?
Yes. Either option may be planned for the approved add-on.
Can Light Glow decorate columns on a villa?
Yes, when the columns, entry architecture, access and approved design support it. The full symmetrical group is considered in the design.
Can garland be installed around the entry or across a porch header?
Yes, when the fixed trim or header, access and approved plan support it. Header placement is planned separately. Garland is not attached to moving door panels and must preserve normal door operation.
Can a wreath be placed across double doors?
No. A wreath must never span the center seam. A solid wall, front-facing gable or architectural area above the recessed entry may offer an approved alternative.
Can the roofline be Multicolor while the wreath and garland are Warm White?
Yes. Standard included wreath and garland lighting is Warm White even with a Multicolor seasonal roofline. Multicolor-lit wreaths and garland are separately priced upgrades.
Will Light Glow drill into stucco for seasonal decorations?
No. Light Glow does not use penetrating attachments for seasonal décor.
Are the roof ridges and hips lit?
The planned roofline follows the visible front eaves and front-facing gable trim. Ridges and hips that run back across the shingle roof are left unlit.
Do I own the column lights, wreaths or garland?
No. Light Glow retains ownership of the included and approved seasonal display materials.
Who maintains and removes column lighting?
Approved column-lighting additions receive the same in-season lighting maintenance, post-season removal and off-season warehousing as the package display.
Create an Entry That Feels Connected to the Whole Home
Columns and recessed entries can become beautiful Christmas focal points while remaining part of one complete composition. The front roof edges establish the home’s shape; column lights, garland, wreaths and bows guide attention toward the entrance.
Light Glow will review the property, create the proposed design and send a visual rendering for approval. Its employees then manage the installation and seasonal service.
